Brown (tory_brown@yahoo.com) ::A r c T w e l e v e:: Route Earth Moshi was running late. She barely had time to snag her shoes from her small locker before racing up the long flights of stairs. Teachers in the hallway spotted the long ponytail floating behind the fuku covered bullet and pressed themselves to the wall, praying that they wouldn't be hit. "Few more steps, few more steps," Moshi huffed under her breath, repeating it like a mantra. Few more steps turned into a few more hundred yards and into an entire floor. When she finally reached her door, she stopped, totally skidding past the entrance. Classmates inside watched as for a second, Moshi appeared and disappeared. She managed to backtrack to reach the door, just before she entered the classroom, the door was slammed in her face. Seconds later, a blonde streak came flying down the hallway screaming, "I'm late!" Moshi gripped her handbag tightly, threatening to crush her bento. "No, Minako-chan," Moshi said when the girl finally slowed. "We're early for tomorrow!" Minako's wide blue eyes followed the point of Moshi's finger and spotted the closed door. She screamed and banged on it with her fists. "Sekano-sensei!" Sekano-sensei's face appeared at the door. "You two stand there, I'll deal with you shortly." Minako and Moshi crowded the small doorway, peering into the classroom. In the front row, Usagi snuck a peak at the door. Giggling, she stuck her tongue out and pulled one eyelid down. The two seethed with anger, while Usagi simply chuckled, wiping fake tears from her eyes. Sekano reappeared and gave Usagi a stern glance before advancing into the hallway. "Girls, this is the third time you've been late this week alone," Sekano said, hanging the signs around their necks. Moshi glanced down at the sign. "I WAS LATE," stood out in large bold kanji. She glanced at Minako's sign that said, "I WAS LATE AND I INTERRUPTED CLASS." "You know what this means," Sekano said, handing them two pink slips. "Detention." "Crap!" Moshi exclaimed before catching herself. Sekano gave her the Teacher's Eyeball, making her cower back against Minako, holding her bookbag up as a shield. "I'll see you two later this afternoon," he said, giving the infamous Teacher's Eyeball once more before turning back and going into the classroom. Once he was gone, Moshi exhaled loudly and slid to the floor, using her handbag as a pillow. Greedily, she thought about opening her bento, but she knew she'd be hungry come lunchtime. Minako slid down to the floor next to her, balancing her bento on her knees. "My mom's going to murder me!" Moshi nodded. "Ru-chan's going to kill me too! He told me if I was late and got detention, he wouldn't charge my yen card!" Sniffing and chewing on a handkerchief, she wailed, "A pretty girl like me would be broke and have no money to see her handsome boyfriend! What to do! What to do!" Minako grinned at Moshi's antics. "Oh you know what!" she said. "I have an audition later on today! You could go with me instead of home!" Moshi saw the lightbulb appear over the blonde's head. "Say, that's not a bad idea! Ru-chan'll think I was with you all day!" She snorted and laughed. "Well, I will be with you all day!" Minako nodded. "I brought all my gear with me, that's why I was so late!" An evil grin broke out on the girls' faces'. If they could pull it off, they could make it seem like they spent all day at the audition instead of detention. "Straight after detention, we'll head downtown, ne?" Minako said. Moshi smirked. "Sure! And no one will know the difference!" Both threw their heads back and cackled insanely. Other late students in the hallway glanced worriedly to the door of 2-1. "Uh, Minako-chan," Moshi whispered. "The others are staring." Minako laughed even louder. "I don't care!" Sekano DID care. He appeared in the hallway again. "Aino-kun!" Both scrambled to their feet, hiding their bento behind their backs. Sekano adjusted his glasses and pointed at the pair. "Both of you, get in here now!" he ordered. He unfolded his arms, wielding his yardstick like a lethal weapon. They tiptoed past, depositing their signs in his outstretched hand. Once inside, they broke for their desks, making the other students giggle. Minako gave Usagi an evil glare as Usagi started to laugh. Minako reached into her desk and pulled out her history book. From the corner of her eye, she could see Makoto shaking her head sadly at Ami. "Aino-kun," Sekano said, stopping in front of her desk. "We're no longer on History, we're now on Biology." Minako flushed a deep red as she retrieved her biology book from her desk. "Hai, Sekano-sensei." * * * * After class, Minako, Moshi, and Toshi were stuck in detention. Toshi had detention for not doing her Biology homework. "Man, this bites," Moshi exclaimed, tossing her pencil on the desk. "I was only two seconds late! And that was because I slid past the door!" Minako inspected her soft-soled shoe. "I think it's these shoes, they make us late!" Nodding, Moshi jumped from her desk. "These shoes MADE me slide thus making me late! CONSPIRACY!" Toshi snorted. "Could you two quiet down?! I have homework here!" Hayashi, the detention sensei, ruffled his newspaper. "I have an even better idea! All three of you, shut up!" The three girls shrank back in their desks and resumed working on their homework. For the next hour, they plodded along. Every now and then, Moshi would sneak tidbits of leftovers from her bento, trying to not get caught by Hayashi. Minako started drooling, angry at the fact she emptied her bento at lunch. Toshi was oblivious to the snacking of Moshi and the drooling of Minako because of the horrible biology homework Sekano assigned. Minako and Moshi were wrapping up their homework and putting their supplies away. Each went to their own desks and put their books away. Moshi was glad that they had a separate stack of books at home and all she needed to carry were her notebooks. They watched the clock as it ticked down the last few minutes of the torturous hour of detention. "Ready, Minako-chan?" Moshi asked, whispering under her breath. Minako nodded, gripping the handle of her handbag. *RING* Before Hayashi-sensei could say, 'you're dismissed." Moshi and Minako blazed a trail from the room, racing to their footlockers. "Hayaku!" Minako roared, tearing down the stairway, rushing past the few students that were left. "Coming through!" Moshi roared as she hit the second floor landing and curving around the banister. Minako had slowed her pace somewhat, but Moshi had started to speed up. Next thing they knew, they slammed into each other and were rolling down the stairs in a ball of arms, legs and hair. "EEEYAAAHHHH!!!" Moshi screamed as they bounced on the floor, skidding to a halt. Minako sat up; her eyes had a dazed look to them. "I said hurry, not throw us down the stairs!" Moshi whapped at Minako with her handbag. "You slowed down!" "Never mind, we're at the lockers." Minako crawled over to hers and opened it to get her shoes. They both donned their outside shoes and jackets. Minako put her backpack on and winced at the weight. "Let's go, we'll have to take the #4 bus." Moshi nodded, digging in her jacket for her bus card. Upstairs, Toshi watched what they were doing. "I wonder where they're going," she thought. * * * * Minako held onto Moshi's ponytail as they pushed their way through the crowd. Hundreds of girls had appeared for the spot in Hoshino Eiga's new picture, 'Yu Yu Hakusho,' and the auditorium was bustling to the near point of being a fire hazard. Moshi pushed her way towards the registration desk. The woman at the desk glanced at Moshi with an approving eye. "Ah, I see you're here for the role of Botan!" Moshi blushed. "Ano, well not me, but my friend here!" She gestured to the shorter blonde holding her ponytail. The woman flushed. "Ah, well, here are the forms, please have her fill them out and get ready. We'll call numbers in 20 minutes." Moshi took the packet and bowed, nearly ripping her hair from her skull. Wincing she replied. "Domo arigato!" They were running late because the bus they rode had a flat. Moshi glanced at her watch and noted that they didn't have long. If they made it earlier they would had time to fill out the forms. Moshi pushed her way towards the dressing room, checking to see if Minako was still holding onto her ponytail. Once inside, they staked out a cube that had a sitting space and a changing space. Moshi sat in the changing space and started on the forms, filling out the information she already knew about Minako. Minako was rushing to get out her school uniform and into her bathing suit. Moshi was scribbling the school information when a red bow fluttered over the divider and landed on her nose. "Minako-chan! Are you almost finished?" Moshi asked, placing the bow next to her. Minako stepped from behind the divider dressed in a purple two piece swimsuit. "Hai!" She twirled around, her hair fanning out. "How do I look?" Moshi grinned. "You look great!" She dug into the packet and pulled out a button. "Here's your number. You're number 639!" Minako took the button and attached it to her suit. "Mo-chan, can I get your bow? It'll match my suit!" Moshi untied her hair, letting it fall around her shoulders. "Take good care of it, it's one of my favorites!" She tied the bow to her hair and grinned. "Of course I will! Hand me the glitter spray, will you?" Moshi reached into Minako's backpack and pulled out a bottle of silver and purple glitter spray. "Sugoi," Moshi said. "You girls go all out for this kind of stuff." Minako winked. "Notice how it matches!" Moshi was amazed at all the things Minako had crammed into the backpack. There was also a set of feeler bobbles with Minako's name on them. Moshi held them up and glared at Minako. "I guess I'm wearing these." She giggled innocently. "It makes me look better if I have a cheering section!" After tying her hair up with Minako's red bow, she donned the headband with the moving feelers. "Things I do for friends," she muttered. She gave Minako the form that needed her signature. Minako pulled out a small block with her name in kanji on it.* Moshi groaned. "You have that?!" Minako nodded, pressing her name onto the form. "All great idols have them." "We better get moving, they're going to call numbers in 2 minutes!" Moshi exclaimed, cramming everything into the backpack. Together, they left the dressing room with Minako walking ahead; head held high, hair flaring behind her. Her skin was covered with a light dusting of purple and silver glitter that twinkled under the harsh changing room lights. The other girls in the dressing room paused, watching as the two walked by. "Is that Aino-san?" one girl asked. Another responded, "Yeah, it's her. We're sure to lose now." Moshi couldn't believe it. Was Minako really this famous amongst the tryout circuit? She shrugged as she put her jacket, their handbags, and the backpack in a locker. They went to the backstage and Minako handed Moshi the forms to hand to the director. Moshi grumbled about being a gopher as she trekked once again through the throng of bodies, finally thankful she was taller than the rest, and handed the forms over. The woman looked at her again. "You sure you don't want to try out?" she asked. Moshi grinned. "I'm not for this kind of stuff and I don't have a bathing suit. I can't sing and I'm surely not as popular as Minako-chan." Moshi waved and headed towards the seats in the front row. She was nearly falling asleep as the girls paraded about on the stage, twisting and twirling, hoping to be called. "I don't see the fun in this!" Moshi groused. "How could you say that! Being an idol is the best kind of dream to have!" a girl next to her said indignantly. Moshi turned to her, the bobbles swinging over her head. "Sumimasen?!" The girl clenched her small fists. "You heard me! I would give everything up to be a famous idol!" A flush was across her cheeks as her orange eyes blazed with determination. "If I didn't have this broken leg, I, Teruno Koriko would win!" Moshi grimaced; this girl was more fanatical than Minako. "Ah, Atashi Takanera Moshi!" Moshi's introduction seemed to deflate Koriko's tirade. "Hajimemashite." She was quiet for a second, before speaking again. "If this isn't fun for you, why are you here?" Moshi pointed to the bobbles on her head. "I'm here to support my friend, Minako-chan. It may not be fun for me, but since she's my friend, I'll support her no matter what she likes." Koriko smiled. "You two must be close." Moshi shrugged. "We are." Koriko smiled again. "I think Aino-san will win. She has the experience the other girls don't. I saw a girl today that couldn't even walk in heels!" she scoffed. "A true idol can walk in any kind of shoes." Moshi sat and listened to the girl rave about the lack of experience of the new people trying out for the role of Botan. Fifteen minutes later, Moshi was ready to jump and run away screaming. Koriko had thoroughly dissected every girl that strutted across the stage, but whenever Minako appeared, stars of joy danced in the brown-haired girl's eyes. Moshi wondered if it Koriko who should have worn the bobbling feelers instead of Moshi. "Ugh! Look at 489! Those heels DO NOT match!" Koriko ranted, waving her small fists in the air. Moshi grabbed her hands and pinned them to the chair. "Teruno-san, stop that! People are staring!" Moshi chastised. "You keep this up and people would swear you were jealous!" Koriko turned her orange eyes on Moshi. Moshi felt herself start to quiver beneath the angry orange gaze. "Teruno Koriko is NEVER jealous!" she hissed. Indignantly, she stood up. Turning her back to Moshi, she reached for her crutches and hobbled away angrily. Moshi watched perplexed as the girl hobbled away. "I guess she was jealous!" She shrugged and sat back down, waiting as twenty more girls were separated from the pack of fifty. Angry, Koriko pushed her way into the bathroom, stumbling past overturned bookbags and backpacks full of clothing. Sniffing, she pushed into the stall, slamming the door behind her. She sat down and started to cry. How dare Takanera-san accuse her of being jealous! Of course, she was a bit miffed that she wasn't able to compete with the infamous Aino-san. Her orange eyes misted with more tears as she stared at her reflection in the stainless steel of the toilet tissue holder. "Kami-sama, I am jealous!" she whimpered, covering her face with her hands. The crystal tears plopped to the ground around her. The warmth of the tears created a soft green mist when hitting the cold ground. The green mist rose, surrounding the girl. Koriko looked up into the blank eyes of a spirit. "What are you?!" The green mist wrapped its translucent arms around her shoulders. "I am Jell O. Cii! And I am hungry!" Koriko screamed for all she was worth as the spirit entered through her nose. Dozens of girls in the bathroom froze as they heard the ear splitting wail from one of the stalls. One black haired girl rushed to the stall and knocked. "Moshi, moshi!" The door swung open and Koriko emerged, green eyes blazing angrily. "What?!" The girl fainted. Koriko chuckled; the green mist appeared again, hovering around her. * * * * Twenty down, thirty to go. There was another modeling session, this time dresses. Moshi clapped for each girl, but bounced in her seat happily when Minako walked out in a beautiful white gown that was complete with frothy lace. "Wait a second," Moshi thought. Could Minako use the Luna Pen? The gown was definitely magical! "She used the Luna pen!" she thought, clenching a fist. She knew Minako had figured out what she thought when she winked. Moshi waited with baited breath near the stage as one of the final cuts were being made. The pack of thirty was sliced down to fifteen. After another parade in the swimsuits again, the number fifteen was sliced to three! Moshi squealed and clapped as Minako made the cut each time. "Go, Minako-chan!" Moshi cried, jumping in her seat, waving small flags that had the flag for Japan imprinted on each one. "Go, Minako-chan!" She dug into the smaller bag and pulled out a rose, tossing it on the stage. Minako blushed and picked up the rose, curtseying. Moshi plopped back in her seat. Hoshino Eiga himself walked onto the stage. "Next we will have the talent competition!" Moshi and a few others whistled and clapped. "First up, number 123, Okawa Kyoko!" Everyone clapped again. Moshi learned that she was having fun. Kyoko, a demure brunette, stepped up to the microphone and introduced herself. "Konnichi wa! Watashi no namae wa, Okawa Kyoko! I'm 16 and in the second year of high school at Yakomoto! My birthday is November 26, Sagittarius! My blood type is AB! Today, I will be performing a short opera I wrote myself." She bowed to the judges and audience. The first few bars had Moshi worried; Kyoko was on to a good start, but when she hit a high note, the microphone screeched in protest at the pitch of her higher than soprano voice. Feed to the microphone was cut instantly and Kyoko was led from the stage. Eiga appeared again. He paused to clear his ears, earning a few chuckles from the audience. "Next up is number 951, Batsu Reiko!" Moshi gasped at Reiko when she appeared. Reiko was very tall, with bright white hair and piercing blue eyes. She was the closet to Botan that Moshi had seen that day. Reiko bowed before introducing herself. "Konnichi wa! Batsu Reiko to moshiimasu. I'm 15 in the first year of high school at Juuban. My birthday is June 29, Cancer! My blood type is O. Hajimemashite." She bowed again. "I will play a short violin piece I wrote myself. She was composed, lithe looking. Moshi knew she was going to do something very sophisticated. From behind her back, Reiko pulled a violin and started to play. Moshi grimaced. She heard a few mutters behind her. "She's not as good as Kaioh Michiru-san!" Moshi had to nod. Reiko wasn't terrible, but she wasn't good either. Eiga appeared one more time. "Last, but not least, number 639, Aino Minako!" Moshi jumped and headed for the stage. Minako appeared dressed in one of her colorful outfits, complete with more colors than a standard rainbow. Minako spotted Moshi near the front and winked. Minako stood straight and winked at the judges. "Watashi wa Aino Minako! I'm 16. I'm a second year student at Juuban High school! My birthday is October 22, Libra! Blood type B! I will perform a song I wrote myself called, Route Venus." Moshi clapped, she had liked the song Minako hummed on the bus. She has asked her the name and Minako said she wrote it herself. Minako snapped her fingers in a beat as the music began. She saw Moshi start to sway in rhythm; her feelers bobbled over her head like dangled carrots. Closing her eyes and listening to the music, Minako began to sing: "Sono doa akete Nokori jikan ga Suikomareteku Hitomi wo agete Massugu mitsume Saigo no kisu wo shite Arukidashite ne." By now, Moshi was doing everything but dancing at the foot of the stage. The feelers were wobbling wildly, threatening to slap her in the face. The beat was catching the audience and making them move to the front of the stage to join the dark haired girl, who was trying her best to not dance. Moshi heard the strength rise in Minako's voice as she continued. "Honto wa Kaze ga Chigieru kurai Kokoro ga hito--" "What happened?" Minako asked. The music was suddenly cut off. Moshi stopped bobbing and looked up at the confused expression on Minako's face. "Minako-chan?!" Minako shrugged, putting a hand in her pocket. Moshi noted her movements and did the same, feeling for her henshin wand. A man staggered forward and fell face down. Behind him, Koriko appeared. Her once orange eyes were now green with jealousy. "She's possessed!" a girl screamed, causing a mass stampede towards the doors. As if taking a cue straight from Stephen King's Carrie, the doors closed, preventing anyone from escaping the auditorium. "This is not good," Moshi muttered, as Minako hopped from the stage and stood next to her. "We gotta go find a place to henshin!" she muttered in Moshi's ear. Moshi nodded and they both started to edge towards the backstage, ducking low to be hidden amongst the rushing bodies. They made their way backstage, checking to see if anyone would notice. "Let's do this! Earth Infinite Power, make up!" "Venus Crystal Power, make up!" Now transformed, the two Senshi exited the backstage, leaping onto center stage. Koriko turned on the Senshi. Her eyes narrowed with hate. Spittle flew from her lips as she spoke. "Senshi? Here?!" "Wherever there's trouble, you can count on us to be there!" Venus exclaimed, putting her hands on her hips. "I am the goddess of love and beauty, Sailor Venus!" "I am the goddess of Life, Super Sailor Earth!" Earth exclaimed, mimicking Venus' posture. Venus glanced at her. "Goddess?!" she mouthed. Earth shrugged and grinned. "In the name of Venus!" "And the planet Earth!" "We will give you divine punishment!" they both said. Koriko snorted. "Divine punishment? What are you two? The bondage Senshi!?" Venus and Earth's face turned a bright red. "Baka hentai!" Earth roared, creating an infinity sign. "Infinite Boomerang!" The boomerang left her fingers, flying towards Koriko. "Boomerang surround!" The boomerang expanded and ensnared Koriko, knocking her to her feet. Venus smirked. "Where did you learn that?!" Earth shrugged nonchalantly. "Practice." Koriko struggled, cursing and slobbing everywhere. "Let me go! You bastards!" "My my, such a foul mouth." Venus prepared to perform her super attack, when Sailor Earth stopped her. "Nani?" she asked. Earth exclaimed, "We can't attack her! We'll hurt her!" "What do we do then?!" Venus asked, scratching her head in confusion. Earth didn't have a chance to respond. Koriko broke free of the boomerang and dashed towards Earth. Earth screamed and tried to pry the girl's steel grip from the poofy shoulders of her fuku. The green eyes flashed with anger as she shook Earth, knocking her to the floor and covering herself with the Senshi. "You fire, and you hurt Earth!" Koriko threatened, tugging harder on Earth's fuku, pulling her closer. "What the hell!?" Earth exclaimed, pressing her hands against the floor and trying to lift herself up. "Give me your jealous energy!" Koriko roared, trying to press her lips to Earth's. "ARGH! She's trying to kiss me!" Earth cried. Her struggles increased as she pushed and pulled, trying to remove herself. Venus had rushed over and started tugging at one of Earth's booted feet. When she couldn't move her, she screamed. "Shock her!" Earth put a hand over the searching lips and closed her eyes. Her form shone purple as she shocked Koriko. The girl gave a muffled scream and went limp beneath her hand. Quickly, Earth rolled over and away, a horrified expression was plastered on her face. "Earth, daijoubu?!" Venus asked, rushing over to her friend. Earth nodded, wiping at her face with the back of her hand. "I will NEVER kiss anyone again!" Venus took one look at Earth's face and started to giggle. "Sailor Earth, Sailor Venus! Look!" a girl screamed from near the foot of the stage. The two directed their gaze in the girl's pointed finger direction. A pale green mist surrounded Koriko and wafted into the air. The mist solidified and took the form of a female. "I am Jell O. Cii! You robbed me of my energy! Give me your jealous energy!" the spirit demanded, advancing towards the Senshi. Venus didn't hesitate. "Venus Love-me Chain!" She whipped the chain out, slapping at Jell O. Cii. She then wrapped the chain around the spirit and tugged. "My turn!" Earth cried, she raced forward and crossed her arms over her chest. "Power... " A purple aura appeared around her fists. As the aura grew brighter, she transferred it all to one fist. She stepped forward and slammed her fist into the ground. As she jumped into the air, she yelled, "Gradation!" In the wake of her fist, a purple pillar appeared and surrounded Jell O. Cii. Venus let her chain dissipate as the pillar closed in. Golden sparks of energy shocked the spirit, causing her to wail loudly. "Now, Venus!" Earth ordered. "Venus Love and Beauty Shock!" Kissing her hand, a golden heart appeared and surrounded her. The heart raced forward and slammed into the purple pillar. In a poof of green and purple smoke, the jealous spirit was no more. Venus and Earth grinned at each other, "Yatta!" A roar came from the audience as they applauded. "You guys were great!" one girl yelled, clapping wildly. Venus grinned broadly and took a bow. Earth only had the grace left to blush. * * * * "Sailor Earth and Sailor Venus crash an audition," Ami read aloud from the newspaper. Minako was the first to tell the rest of their adventure. The girls gathered for the usual at Fruit Crown Parlor. Usagi was busily tackling a snack. "I'm sorry I missed it! I would have loved to see you perform, Minako-chan!" she said from across the table. Moshi grinned. "It was crowded! There was barely room for us to get past!" "They even asked for our autographs!" Minako crowed, flipping a lock of hair over her shoulder. "I wouldn't mind being famous myself," Moshi said wistfully. "It seemed to be fun!" A gagging noise came from Ami as she spit her straw out. "Look at this!" she said. She placed the paper out on the table. The six girls looked at the paper. "Oh my goodness!" Rei exclaimed. Makoto laughed. "Wasn't this Minako-chan's audition!?" Moshi nodded dumbly. "Hai." "Moshi-chan!" Minako growled, balling the paper up. "How dare you!" Moshi just did have a chance to read the headline. Hoshino Eiga was looking for Sailor Earth to star in his next picture, 'Wedding Peach.' Moshi put her hands up in defense of herself. "Wait, Minako-chan, remember Jell O. Cii!" "Jell O. Cii this!" Minako roared, taking off after Moshi, who had already made a mad dash for the exit. The rest could only laugh as the two ran outside the building. Oshimai da yo! Next Arc: Sincerity of Life.
